Welcome to Generation Gap where we ask you about your favorite generation of a certain multi-generational car nameplate. Then, explain why your choice is right to the rest of us uneducated folks.

We may have done Volvo wagons in the past but the lineage of another great Swedish automaker is conspicuously absent from Generation Gap. Of course, it’s Saab! Today we will be going through the line-up of smaller Saabs from the original Ursaab (a concept, but let’s include it for fun) up to the Saab 90. The 900/9-3 doesn’t count as it was more of a compact executive rather than a small car, and the 9-2x was more of a Subaru. Without further ado, let’s get started!
The options:
Ursaab [1945 - 1949] Prototype

Saab 92 [1949 - 1956]

Saab 93 [1956 - 1960]

Saab 96 [1960 - 1980] and facelifts
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
Saab 99 [1968 - 1984] and facelift

Saab 90 [1984 - 1987]

I’m a big fan of the facelifted 96. But no Sonnet?

Of these the Saab 93A is my favorite. The split window, grille, and body lines are beautiful. The Sonett II is my favorite. It is beautiful and the 850 cc two stroke with automatic oiling is really freaking cool.

I don’t think this argument is valid. Cars simply have grown, if you include the 99 you’d have to include the 900: it’s the successor alright. It wouldn’t win the poll though ;-)

Well, the 99 was sold alongside the 900 for some time as a sedan/smaller variant, although normally I would definitely agree that it’s the predecessor to the 900. I was going based off Wikipedia here, but we all know how reliable that can be sometimes ;)

Sonett has it’s own line; I’ll showcase it next week!

That’s probably because there was some overlap when the 900 came: The 99 was renamed 90 (and slightly changed) and still was produced for a while. Not available in all European countries though.
